Under Cover Antler

I decided to put this one in as a big picture because it is only a small, old, white 3-point...have to do something to make it seem bigger. I have been looking for elk antlers in an area that seems perfect for deer, but this is the first one I have found in this area. I was out for about 1 1/2 hours and only found this, but at least I wasn't skunked...that's twice in a row now...hopefully things are getting back on track.

Family Elk Spotting

We went out for a drive, as a family, when Sam started saying we needed to go look for elk. I was pretty sure we wouldn't see anything, but we were pleasantly surprised. We saw 6 bulls that were all re-growing their antlers. Two were quite a bit bigger than the others. I am pretty sure that the one on the far right of the first picture is the bull that dropped the biggest one I found. The camera battery died, so I put my phone up to the binoculars for the best we could get...taken from the Jeep at about 50-60 yards.

Broken Horn Hunt

The first picture is my first "can you see it?" - not too hard to find. I went out for the day and only ended up finding these two broken sheds...but they were both fresh and I finally broke my skunk streak. While I was out I did a ton of hiking and ended up finding a herd of about 40 elk. There were 5 bulls that I could see. Four of the bulls were spikes that hadn't dropped yet and the other had dropped and was growing his new set. After the herd realized I was there, at about 150 yards, they trotted away. I started to scan the hillside for horns and ended up finding the deer shed laying right where they had been eating. The weird thing about that one is I was at an elevation of about 7600 feet. It was the highest deer shed I have found and the only one I have ever found in that area.

Horn King Update?

So Scott has been the Horn King in years past. However, last year Erik took the crown. This year I had a very short week or two as king, then Erik took it back. This last week has been busy for Erik, but Scott has apparently been putting up a good fight...with 19 sheds in the last 2 weekends. These ones were found by one of Scotts co-workders. Erik says that he is still leading by 1-2 sheds, but Scott has really closed the gap.

Erik Is Finding Too Many Sheds

Kind of old, nothing great, but even these will keep you going. Erik is trying to make up for the ones that Dane and I aren't finding.

More Pictures From Erik

These are more pictures of the sweet set my brother found. The last picture is the one single he found...pretty rough - it is only a 4-point!

Sweet Set

My brother did some good scouting this year and it paid off. He found this set yesterday along with a few other singles. I am still waiting on the pictures of the others. What a lucky punk! This is his best set of the year...so far.

Same Buck?

Last year my brother found the one on the right, then he found the one on the left today. We were thinking it may be from the same buck.

Some Cool Ones

These are some pictures from my brother's shed hunt today. The one in the tree is just how he found it. The small one his friend found...I wonder if it even knew it was gone.

One At A Time

My dad and one of my brothers and I went out today and my dad found the first and only one for the day. It is about the same size as the one I found on Thursday...I guess we just have to find them one at a time this year.

Tines Up

My daughter and I went out for a couple hours after work and found our first brown elk shed of the year. It is a 6 point with a huge brow tine. It isn't real big, but it is the biggest I have found so far.
